Kili 2022

In October 2022, a group of finix associates, and clients, headed to Tanzania, to climb Kilimanjaro, the highest mountain in the Continent of Africa, one of the seven summits, and at 5,895m it is the tallest freestanding mountain in the world (freestanding means it is not part of a range of mountains, like most mountains are).

The team set off from London Heathrow on the afternoon of the 29th Sept to Tanzania, landing on the 30th, after a long trip and a stop in Doha. All 12 of our bags, including all our kit for the climb however, didn't arrive with us in Tanzania - which was a little problematic.

Luckily the bags were located, and sent to us just in time, and we started our climb on the Machame route on Kilimanjaro, very late in the afternoon of 1st October 2022.

The final early morning ascent was tough, a 7.5 hour climb up a steep and winding route, with a windchill of -17. Added to this, many of those going up were suffering with altitude. Two from our team developed HAPE, and one had HACE due to the high speed of our ascent - and all fully recovered.

This route usually takes 6 nights/7 days, however we summited early in the morning on Weds 5th October, meaning we achieved our goal in 3 days, 15 hours, and 31 minutes.

Afterwards we went straight down, and back to the hotel, in around 14 hours.

finix hosted the climb, and alongside the other climb sponsors Moonreach and Mapping Your Travel , raised money for our selected 2022 causes which are:

The Fircroft Trust - A Surrey based charity, supporting people with learning disabilities, Autism, or Mental Health. Half of the total raised went directly to The Fircroft Trust, and will be used on projects and activities directly benefitting the people who use their services.

Freedom 4 Girls - a UK based charity, fighting against period poverty. Half of the money raised went directly to Freedom 4 Girls, and will be used to buy products for women who otherwise might not have the means to access them.

finix also matched the first £200 of donations, which was added to the pot and is included in the final overall total raised. In the end, overall £1,000 was raised for these charities.

A huge thank you to every single person, and organisation who sponsored us and benefitted these amazing causes. Also, a huge thanks to the support team in Kilimanjaro, the finix team who went (Daibhid, Julie, Brian, Michelle, and Diarmuid).

It was the most incredible experience.
